Vegas baby!

First night in Vegas (our first family selfie)
We decided to head to Vegas for our family vacation this year. The main reason we wanted to go there was to bring Cal to the NBA summer league tournament. This is where the newly drafted NBA players and also some of the rookies for the NBA teams play. We also wanted Calvin to met as many Jazz players as we could so we could get pictures taken with them and get some memorabilia for Cal.

First off Cal did an excellent job driving from Salt Lake to Vegas. He did not cry once and well he slept most of the time. We stayed at the stratosphere hotel and we arrived late the first night so we went straight to bed. The second day we were there we went to the top of the world restaurant which is on top of our hotel. It is way up there and I am totally afraid of heights but it was awesome to see the whole city from that far up. We got some nice pictures from up there. Later that day we headed over to watch a couple of Jazz games and we were lucky enough to meet one of the newly drafted Jazz players Rodney Hood. We had gotten to the line late and luckily we were the last ones to get his autograph and also Cal got his picture taken with him.

The next day Brian's brother Peter came into town and we hung out with him that day and went to more basketball games and also went to the top of the stratosphere. We got some pretty nice pics of the Vegas strip and also some pics of us on top of the stratosphere. I have to say this that being that high off he ground really freaked me out. Brian really had the toughest time getting me to go up. I am kinda glad I did since we got a nice pic on top of it with Cal.

At the end of the trip we were able to head over to see Brian's aunt and uncle who are serving as mission presidents there in Vegas. It was really fun to hang out with them while we were there.

Calvin is 5 months old

So this post is really late. Calvin turned 5 months old back on July 17th. We were in Vegas at the time and so we didnt get to go one of his month to month pics but we did get one of him with a jazz player Rodney Hood. This month Calvin has been doing alot. He now loves to roll across the room it is like non stop. He also loves to be in his exersaucer. He is smiling all the time. He really is a really happy and content baby. I really think he has like really cried cried like a handful of times. He also got two teeth around 4 months 1 week and he is not sleeping through the night again. I think he can sleep a total of 11 hours in a row. He also did a really awesome job when we drove to Las Vegas. He slept like the whole 6 hours there. I really dont know how we got so lucky to have such a great baby. I dont have any weight or height stats yet. We dont go to the doc again till he is 6 months old. But what i can tell you is he is wearing 12 to 18 month clothes. He is one big kiddo. Here are some pics from the month :)

He loves to sit up and he has rolled over from his front to his back. He has not quite made it from back to front but he loves to lay on his side. He also loves to talk to us and he does a lot of raspberries with his mouth. He has also started to laugh we just love to make him laugh. Basically when it comes down to it we love this little man so much and cant wait to see what the future holds for him!

Cal is 2 months

I can not believe that my little guy is 2 months old. He is growing up way to fast. It feels like yesterday that I was still pregnant with this little guy. At his two month appointment he weighed 14 lbs 9 oz and he is 25 1/4 inches long. He is such a big little guy they say that he is the size of a 5 month old. Cal is still doing awesome with sleeping through the night. He loves to sit with daddy and he has started to mimic what he is doing. He is still not a fan of tummy time but he is such a strong boy. He seems to be a very chill baby. He does not cry very much at all. He also loves to sit with his dad and watch sports :)

Calvin's one month old

Oh my I can not believe that my little Calvin is one month today. Time is going by way too fast. Calvin is at least 12 pounds by now and he is over 23 inches long. Ever since he was born he has been a great sleeper. By 3 weeks he was sleeping at least 7 hours straight at night. He loves to cuddle up with his dad. I love that I am the mom and if he is crying he comes to me and I can calm him down. We feel like we got the best baby ever. The only time he really cries is when we have to do tummy time with him. He is doing a really good job holding his head up and he has actually been doing that for a couple of weeks now. He is a pretty strong little guy. Oh how much I love this little guy :)

Calvin's birth story

So I ended up having contractions on Saturday night the 15th that were 5 mins apart so we headed to the hospital. I was dilated to 1 and 1/2 and so my doc said it was ok to go ahead and we could stay and start the induction that night. I got the cytotec that night and so I just slept so I could have plenty of rest for the next day. The next morning I got the epidural at 10 30 am and started the pitocin right afterwards. By 2:30 pm I was dilated to a 3 and the doc broke my water hoping it would move things along. By that evening i was maybe to a 4 plus. Around 2 am the baby heart rate started dropping after contractions so they lowered my pitocin but then my blood pressure started dropping too because i had a contraction that would not stop. They had to completely turn off the pitocin. It was so close to the point that they were about to give me a shot to stop all the contractions. But luckily they were able to get it to be stopped. So i was off the pitocin for about 2 and 1/2 hours. At that point i was a 6. We talked to the doc during that time and he felt it was best to start it back at 4:30 and then he would check me when he came into the hospital that morning. Before we started the pitocin again at 4:30 i was a 7 plus. When he got there around 8ish i was still a 7 plus. And the baby was face down so they thought if they could get him to be face up that would help dilate me faster and so they put me in some interesting positions to try to get him to move. At 10:30 am the doc came in and I was still a 7 plus and had not progressed in 6 hours. The doc said that baby was not going to be coming naturally and we needed to have a c section. So 22 hours later of active labor we headed to the OR and Calvin was born at 12:36 pm Feb 17th.

Calvin Joseph Maxwell

Our family has finally got a new addition. Calvin was born February 17 2014. He weighed 11 pounds and 23 inches long. I have to say I was a little surprised that he was that big. I knew he was going to be big maybe 9 pounds but wow 11 pounds. When he arrived he had to go to the NICU to be check because I had a fever during labor and also because of how big he was. When they checked his sugars they were 29 and they want there sugars to be above 45. Brian then fed him a bottle and his sugars went up to 51. So they said we could have him in our room and they would come back and check his sugars again before he fed again. When they came back his sugars were 42 which was below where they wanted them and then when we fed him again his sugars only went up to 45. So they were concerned and wanted to bring him into the NICU and put him on an iv so we could stabilize his sugars.
By the 3rd day we were in the hospital we ended up finding out that he had to many fluids in his body and had low sodium so we had to stay in the NICU longer to get that taken care of. He finally got his sugars and sodium taken care of by Saturday the 22nd and was able to come home. We were fortunate that we were able to stay an extra night in the hospital with him so we never had to go home with out him. He has been such a good baby. He hardly ever cries and he is a great sleeper. We love this little man so much and so glad he is apart of our family.
